CHES Undergraduate Affiliate

For my senior honors thesis, I am working with sediments from the site Abrigo de la Boja in Murcia, Spain. This site has rich preservation of hearths, ranging in time from late Neanderthals in the Mousterian to early modern humans in the Magdalenian. I am also performing experimental FTIR on samples of calcite and dolomite to help with the archaeological FTIR interpretation. This research will help contribute to our understanding of fire technology during the time of the last Neaderthals in Europe as well as Humans.
